Wow what a blast from the past and the history and legacy of san jose. as a 5th generation native having been born and raised in san jose have never been to henrys. that got fixed tonight and wow did we have a great time, theres a palpable, touchable electricity in the air, just a really fun vibe that you instantly sense as soon as you walk through the door check that even just as you walk up the neon lights and the building theres just this uncanny tingly goodness that jumps out at you and tells you youre going to have a good time as soon as you walk through those front doors. so you get inside and sometimes the weight can be 30-45 minutes or more but while is it worth it. we got there waited about 15 minutes ordered our food waited another 25-30 minutes got seated soon as we were seated the food was ready. had the salmon and the new york steak and wow great tender piece of meat, cooked her perfection the salad was okay nothing to ride home about but solid and safe, baked potato is good, everything about this place just screams local local. if you havent been to henrys high life you have to get in here and check it out this place is fun fun. highly recommend. parking: parking can be very challenging, theres some one-way streets which add to the element of intrigue trying to find a parking spot but having driven around twice we found one. theres paid parking across the street for 10 bucks which is reasonable if theyre super busy.

I had the filet minion, and 3 kids shared the 48oz tomahawk steak. the tomahawk had 4 different kinds of salts. which helped make each steak cut flavor differently. the service was a little slow but polite. he had to attend to different sections of the restaurant. he made up for it in the end.

Rok Steakhouse & Grill

Cook your steak on the rok or get it grilled
One review mentioned:
Ordered 2 one pound steaks. 2 alcoholic drinks, & a sundae. steaks came with 2 sides each. the service was exceptional. our server was on top of his game. did a really good concept of explaining the concept of the restaurant: the steak is cooked on a hot rock. kind of like k-bbq or pepper lunch? they pull it out on a cart. it s sizzling. food was good. a bit pricey but within reason. the types of meats are the type you d find in a medium-high end restaurant. so, $60 per person is a good estimate for the bill. vibes are nice. you really get the sense that the staff have a passion for what they do. come here. eat here. it s good. 10/10

Came in on a wednesday for lunch and had a great time here. our server grace was helpful and the meats were continuously being rotated. some meats were a tad dry (pork chop). though the majority were excellent and flavorful. i highly recommend the crispy chickpea kale salad to go alongside any of the meats. will be back again. thank you :]

Three Flames
4.2Three Flames, 1547 Meridian Ave, San Jose, CA 95125
Classic american fare including prime rib, lobster & pasta served in a richly appointed dining room.
One review mentioned:
We found this place on a whim. we were looking for some comfort food, and boy did we find the right place. the menu was extensive. from seafood, to steaks, sandwiches, hot plates, burgers, pretty much every category you can think of. we settled with the open faced hot roast beef sandwich with mash and gravy, and the french dipped sandwich with french fries. the hot roast beef came with an array of yummy veggies such as cauliflower and broccoli. i was not a fan of the gravy however, not rich enough or beefy enough, but it worked okay with the sandwich. the roast beef was amazing. the french dip came with the most wonderful french fries. they were crispy on the outside and very creamy on the inside. next time we are getting the basket of fries, they were that good. the ranch dressing for dipping was exceptional. oscar our server went out of his way to help us, he was generous with his time and kindness, even making my daughter his recipe for ginger ale. all in all worth a visit or two or three.

Orchestria Palm Court Restaurant
4.7Orchestria Palm Court Restaurant, 27 E William St, San Jose, CA 95112
Ornate venue with turn-of-the-century fixtures, vintage decor & carefully sourced american fare.
One review mentioned:
I brought my kids to this remarkable restaurant for their birthdays. it was a very unique experience and we had a lot of fun. the place is decorated in a very vintage fashion, complete with an old fountain bar serving phosphate drinks as well as other cocktails and milkshakes. they have a unique menu and they seem to be very conscious of having quality healthy ingredients. they told me that this is one of the very few locations in the united states where you could still get phosphate drinks. the entire seating area is surrounded by a variety of animatronic automated pianos that use a form of sheet rolls to play a variety of tunes. it was very fascinating to enjoy our meal and watch and listen to these machines play around us. i believe the two partners that founded this place work behind the two different bar areas, they have quite the story of how they founded the restaurant based on their personal passion for collecting these machines. and then the collection only grew and the result is this fascinating restaurant. if youre looking for a fun and unique experience in a vintage setting, then this place is for you.

One review mentioned:
I wasnt paying attention the first time i walked in, i was thinking it was a pizza place. nope, the guy behind the counter said, adding, we make the best cheese steak sandwiches. i lived in philly for a few years, and i know my way around a good steak sandwich, so i said, sure, one, whiz, with. i got a funny look, and then the guy handed me a menu. ok, i thought to myself, im in northern california after all, and i cant expect them to know what that means. so, i looked at the menu, and thought the prices were a bit high, and then i saw the cook working the grill. he knew what he was doing, so i ordered a half cheese steak sandwich, with the works. it took a while, they dont rush, but they sure dont disappoint either. the sandwich tasted great. its a nice touch that they have jars of peppers on the counter for customers to help themselves, just like back in roxborough.

Firehouse No.1

Buzzing gastropub for craft cocktails & elevated american comfort food with seasonal tendencies.
One review mentioned:
The area where this restaurant is located can be very busy, especially during fri and weekends, so plan accordingly. there is a parking garage nearby which is very convenient. the night we went for dinner was quiet so we were able to get a table right away. our server was very courteous and helpful since it was our first time there. they have a good selection of beer and cocktails. the four we ordered were great. appetizers were very generous in portion: calamari and the french fries. both came out fresh and crispy with loads of flavor. our main entrees were surf and turf (6oz sirloin and grilled halibut) and ny strip steak. again, both came out perfectly and were delicious. overall a great place for drinks and meal with friends or date.
