Beautiful ambiance. excellent customer service although the ribeye steak was a bit overly cooked as it was ordered medium rare. the ribeye was presented well although it was not a good solid traditional ribeye it was more about presentation rather than a delicious piece of steak. the beef tar tartare was delicious. the horseradish mashed potatoes were not our favorite. we would return for cocktails and try different entrees next time.

Once my lunch companion was able to sit down, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast for lunch. the host was not helpful. twice, i asked to sit closer to the door since my friend could barely walk with her cane, but the host stated those sections were closed and tried to take us to the back of the entire restaurant! not helpful to my friend walking painfully. fortunately, diane (?), our waitress interrupted the host to seat us where we were standing, overriding his objection as host. diane proved awesome, attentive & friendly. with a genuine smile, she helped us make selections of french toast platters. we left completely stuffed with scrumptious food. our waitress even suggested that the walk back to my car would be shorter (by half) via the side door if we didnt mind a step. thank you!! apart from the host, our experience was a delight. parking: ample parking with handicap accessible spots to side of building.

Chaval, 58 Pine St, Portland, ME 04102

Casually stylish brasserie for seasonal french- & spanish-influenced cuisine & craft cocktails.

    One review mentioned:

We stopped in for date night before a show at the state theater, and it was a delectable experience. the interior is warm and inviting, perfect for a dinner for two. while chaval is known for tapas, we opted for the tried-and-true coq au vin and started with the salad on the specials menu. the salad was balanced in flavors, with the creamy blue cheese crumbles complementing the crunch of the almonds. the coq au vin for two was just the right portion and full of flavor. wed recommend adding another side, as we wished we had even more potatoes or veggies to pair with the chicken! reservations are hard to come by, so plan in advance, but the seats around the bar area are first-come, first-serve. well be back and we recommend you try it out too!
